I’m Feelin Melancholy, How ‘Bout You?
I can’t come up with any ONE interesting thing to post about, so I figured I’d post a lot of un-interesting things and hope that you guys don’t notice. Just be glad you weren’t on the receiving end of one of my many emails today. Like her and her and her. Or on the receiving end of one of my many “I’m bored and have nothing to say but feel like talking on the phone” phone calls. Like Grandmaother and Quart. I honestly considered tweeting “Bored & want to chat. DM me your phone number if you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.”
What’s leading to all this, you ask? Well, the boys are sick. BOTH of them. Runny noses, super congested coughs, general discontent, extreme malaise, puke, spit up. I suspect an ear infection or two. There’s been a whole lot of crying around here the past few days. And a whole lot of wine drinking. I’ll let you guess who’s up to what activity.
I’m also sad to hear that Punk Rock Mommy died this past weekend. So sad. 6 kids, a husband. An amazing attitude.
So today I’m feeling “Bleh”. Tired. I feel bad for my kids that I can’t do anything to help them or make them feel better. I feel bad that I’m losing patience with them, even though they’re sick and feel crappy and can’t help but wank. And wank. And wank some more. And wank LOUDER. I’m taking them BOTH to the Doctor later this afternoon. Where, again, I’m sure there will be much crying and wanking. It’s always so fun.
On another note, we were in Santa Barbara yesterday and got to see first-hand the damage from the Gap Fire. It was a bit freaky just how close it got to DJ’s parent’s house. Here are a few too many pictures that I took from their neighborhood.
The Charred Mountainside. It might be hard to
tell, but the whole mountain is burned.
A view further to the west.
A house that was barely saved. With two firefighters trapped inside.
Helicopter dropping water on a flare-up
We brought treats to the Command Center…
There are signs like this everywhere.
For the first time in a week, no flames were visible yesterday. Great timing on my part, no? My pyro self would have dug the flames. Maybe next time, and I’m sure there will be a next time.
What else…what else? Oh yes. I had an idea. An idea for a new blog carnival thingy. I feel like I’m a bit too big for my britches, coming up with a blog carnival and all, but what the hell? Why not? Here’s my idea:
Tell me what you think. If you think it’s awesome and you’d TOTALLY participate, tell me. If you think it’s lame and that no one will want to do it, keep your mouth shut let me know that too. I respectfully request your feedback. Constructive criticism encouraged
Okay, well, I’m off to get everyone ready for our big Doctor’s appointment. And a half hour drive to and fro. With two sick kids. Wish me luck. I need it.

You may be melancholy, but your creativity is flowing! Love the carnival idea. I’m struggling with how to weave in tales from BTB (before the blog) without seeming like old news being reported. Count me in!

Oh, I have many interesting things I would’ve blogged before I had a blog. Will this be a regular thing? *lol* Cuz I could do post after post after post!
Beyond that, I’m sorry you’re feeling melancholy. I was like that last week. I even prewrote posts so I wouldn’t have to do anything…and I unfortunately lost visitors because I didn’t go commenting. But I needed that week. I still need another week…but this time with commenting. I’m hoping to prewrite a bunch of posts again. Who knows…maybe I’ll get back in the groove again after that.

Luck. Steadfastness. Resolve. Patience. Can you tell I’m still bitter about my last doctor’s visit? I’m sorry you’re feeling blah. I think the carnival idea is fun. Oh! And you’re big weekend trip is right around the corner.

I’m sorry about Punk Rock Mommy> I didn’t know her blog, but just popped over there to check it out. A very sad story.
You actually said a lot and your email to me was TRES brief.
I like your Carnival idea. My brain is fuzzy now, but I believe I would do it. Dammit!

I am so glad you came up with this carnival, because I was just thinking as I was stirring my risotto forever tonight making dinner how I was going to tell some stories from pictures I have in the vaults!
Sorry the boys are sick. Hope they are better soon.

I love your carnival idea. I was actually going to start a “series” on my own blog of stories that happened before I started blogging. Count me in.
Hope your fellas feel better. We just had the nasties here a few weeks ago. I’ll be sending happy wine thoughts your way.

Just found your AllMediocre site and now your blog. I love your ideas – and look forward to reading more. I think I finally started my blog because I had so many stories that I felt like I should have been writing. In fact – I’ve only had my blog for a couple of weeks and I’m already thinking about things from my past that I want to write about. Unfortunately – I will have to keep some to myself since my husband doesn’t love some of my “pre-him” stories…but I guess that’s just the way it goes when you get married. I was already informed that it a post that involved flirting with young guys wasn’t a big hit with him. Oh well. Anyway – I love this idea too and would be happy to join in. (Hope all of this enthusiasm for the carnival lightens your melancholy mood.)

The melancholy is needed to show us the joy. That is the only way I get through days like that.
I’m thinking of you – hope the kiddos feel better soon.

I’d be in on your blog carnival, although I hope you suggest a “theme” (NaBloPoMo style, so you can go with it or do your own thing) because I would have SUCH A HARD TIME deciding where to start.
You’re such an entrepreneur! Even while you’re melancholy.

I’ve been melancholy since last week. You may not believe it but your emails actually cheered me up today. But now I’m sad again because I looked at PunkRockMommy’s site and , well, I’m just so mad and sad. Sorry your kids are sick just keep looking forward to next weekend. I’ll see you there.

I didn’t know about Punk Rock Mommy, my heart just aches for her family, but what a blessing her blog is and will be for her family and children.
I just finished reading The Shack and as difficult as it was to get through it, I am so glad I did. It puts death and dying in a whole new perspective for me. I highly suggest it and a box of kleenex while you read it.
I like the carnival idea as I have an old blog and some things I’d like to move over, but felt silly doing, now I have a great reason for it!
I hope the sickies feel better soon!

The carnival idea sounds great!! I sometimes lack inspiration and could do with writing about stuff that happened before I started blogging!!
By the way, those photos are incredible – I shudder to think how it could have been and it’s bad enough as it is!!

I like the blog carnival idea. I just made up one myself, we’ll see how THAT goes. But can I put myself in as a “tentative”? I am getting creamed at work and going on vacation in a week, so I’m not doing great with time-sensitive deadlines right now…

I hear ya on the melancholy (and apparently my puppy decided to get sympathy-sick with your boys, so now I feel a bit – though only a bit – of your pain)
I’d do the blog carnival… I totally have stories from the past that could see the light, if I have enough wine in me to get ‘em started

Sorry to hear you are melancholy and that the kiddos are sick. But now I’ve got the Pina Colada song in my head and its kinda annoying.
I’d be in on the carnival. I have a bunch of stories from P.B. that I could tell.

Ooh I love the carnival idea!
Although I’ve put the most titillating parts of my life into my plays and one-woman shows already…ah the wild days
And yeah, just like Kate, my boyfriend would be unhappy about my more “fun” exploits – but perhaps that’s for the better – it keeps me properly conservative in my sharing.
And lastly, I’m melancholy about twice an hour. It’s an artist’s right.
