My 4th Hangover
Not my fourth of all time, mind you, because I’m sad to say I’ve had many more than four. Like around 6 or 7(ty). And I’m not hungover in the “Dude I got SOOOO wasted last night I threw up all over myself” sense. Which could have totally been the case after drinking this throughout the day:

Looks harmless enough, no? But those innocent looking berries are soaking in Vodka. That’s right, vodka. And if you’re scared of vodka, but this looks too tempting to pass up, trust me when I tell you that it is. Don’t be a wuss. Strap some on and try it. It’s delicious. And the use of Berry (or Black Cherry in my case) flavored vodka makes it that much more appealing.
You see, every Fourth of July we have a block party. An old fashioned, block off the street to cars, bring out some tables, chairs and your BBQ, and party in the streets kind of affair. It’s fun. And rowdy. And this year proved to be no different. And today I’m tired. And sore. And, well, feeling as if I drank like a sailor last night. But not just any sailor. A sailor with a drinking problem. Thing is, I really didn’t drink that much and by the time I went to bed I was perfectly (sadly) sober. So, what’s up with that?
Since you weren’t able to make it here for the big day, I thought I’d bring the big day to you.
Zach’s first 4th

“Pointing” at the fireworks
The Firefighter’s Daughter
The Evacuee’s (They made it!)
Safe & Sane (and kinda lame)
The Babies (see how rowdy we were?)
And where was Dylan, you ask? Inside like this…ALL DAY LONG.
But the REST of us had fun. And I have plenty of beer, tri-tip, hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, pasta salad, cupcakes & cookies left over. You’re welcome to stop by for a little After 4th Fiesta! But the Vodka Berry Spritzer is all for me.

Darn. I wanted to try some of that Vodka Berry Spritzer. (Geez, you’re greedy. I wanted to get SPRITZED, too! Kinda like getting blitzed, but for old people like me.)
In that 2nd picture, Zach looks like he’s going, “DUDE. I am sooo wasted, man.” Which doesn’t make him any less adorable! Those eyes. He’s a cutie.
Poor, poor Dylan. Would earplugs help?

Jennifer-
He actually had ear plugs, but they didn’t help the situation. Even the muffled noise scared the ever loving shit out of him, so the day was a wash. Poor kid, it was quite pathetic.
And I suppose I could make another pitcher (or six)…so come on over!

The last photo is hilarious! My daughter isn’t a fan of loud noises either… in fact, she does the same thing (holding her ears and squealing) whenever we’re in a strange bathroom and we flush the toilet. She freaks out at the noise.

Real nice, showing pictures of your in laws cuddled up under a BLANKET on July 4th. while the rest of us suffer through agonizing humidity and heat (well, those of us in close proximity to DC at least).
That spritzer looks fantastic. And here I was wasting my berries on angel food cake like an idiot.

Mmm that berry spritzer looks yummy.
We skipped the fireworks this year for the same reason. Maybe next year?

How cool! I used to love those block parties when I was younger. My littlest ones aren’t big on the festivities just yet!

Ooooo I am so going to your party next year! We had some crappy wine and KFC (yuck!) at our Riveria party with the geriatrics. The big hit was my outstanding brownies (of course!) I told you I make a kick ass Pioneer wife. Martha Stewart would be proud and in the midst of the Gap fire in our backyard!
Good to know your In-laws made it out safe – it was wicked here last Thursday.
When we evacuated Hubby remembered to take our Tri-tip that night. The first thing I packed was my panties!

Oh – that face! I love pictures of crying babies (Is that cruel??) I think I’m going to become a photographer that does nothing but take pitures of crying babies ALL the time.
Wait… that means I would have to listen to crying babies ALL the time.
NEVER MIND!
My kids like fireworks (At least they did until Daddy almost blew his hand off Friday! Ooops!)

WHAT? He almost blew his hand off? Ouch. No wonder your kids are scared. At least their fear is based on something reasonable. His is just weird. Hopefully he’ll grow out of it. Soon.

Natalie,
Ha! You’re totally welcome next year, so long as your bring brownies. :0)
I’m off to see your post on the fire and then put up a little something of my own.
DJ just called and said it’s pretty crazy down there again today. Flames and all on the hills again. Yesterday must have been the ONLY day you couldn’t see flames and OF COURSE it was the say I was there! What the hell is that all about?
