My father-in-law, who grew up in NYC and saw hundreds of games there, was also emotional about that game and the ceremonies. And we had to tell my mother-in-law to STOP making fun of him for getting emotional about it.

Poor guy, and poor fans.

I am not a Yankee fan, but I was there once as a kid and I respect the tradition and history, so I'm sorry to see it go, too. The fact that the team was eliminated from playoff contention for the season? Not so sorry.

As for Zach, try to look at it this way: Someone else will get the joy of walking around behind him, making sure he doesn't smack his head, and thereby getting a sore back, for a few days. By the time you return, you can be the relief team!

But seriously, I think what Angie said captures it all and so many moms deal with the same dilemmas. At least you're in good company. :-)

I was wondering if the new stadium is going to have the big baseball bat out front, because if it didn't that would be sac-relig!

This Boston Girl totally skimmed the ode to Yankee Stadium bullshit, although I tuned in to Martini Bar. When they tore down the old Boston Garden (Gaah-din) I was really sad too - until I found out the new one served margaritas. Margaritas and hockey - how can that end badly?

And HRH said his first word - Mama - while I was in Texas. Andy really debated even telling me.

Martini bars are good... Life has a way of balancing things out.
Don't worry about Zach, just tell whoever is watching him (Grandma?) NOT to tell you if he walks. They must act as if the first time he walks in front of you is the very first time. They OWE you that much. Have a great time in NYC. Say hi for me.

My husband will probably cry when Texas Stadium closes next year. Although they may be tears of joy since the new stadium is down the street...

Moose hunter on your header? Niiiice.

I feel sad about Yankee Stadium, too.

And Zach might wait. Or start right before you leave. I'm throwing in some optimism here.

Well, I taught him how to give the finger the other day, so I'm sure he will give it to you. If he doesn't, I'm not a very good teacher.

Do you seriously think that when Zach talks he'll say "F you" and not "fuck you?" C'mon.

I know what you mean Meghan. Between this and some of the rides at Coney Island going away I feel like part of my childhood is disappearing.

Isn't that how it always works with his though? Both my boys spent a weekend with Nana and were walking by the end of it....
