Overwhelmed
I watch this video, I cry.
I read my email, I cry.
I think of Heather, I cry.
I watch the For Maddie Paypal fund grow in size, I cry.
I shop for a purple shirt to wear on Tuesday, I cry.
I watch as Twitter turns purple, I cry.
I watch the list of posts dedicated to Maddie grow and grow, I cry.
I look at the list of “internet” friends attending Maddie’s service, I cry.
I see Demi Moore’s, Soleil Moon Frye’s, Jimmy Fallon’s and Alyssa Milano’s mentions of Maddie on Twitter, I cry.
I watch this video, I cry.
I look through Heather’s Flickr stream at pages upon pages of pictures of Maddie.

And I smile.

I’m amazed at people! For a community that a lot of people don’t think is real it’s wonderful to see how people have pulled together to support Heather and Mike.
Without sounding too much like a suck up, YOU have been amazing too. The time and effort you’ve put forward – wow.

How can you NOT smile. Look at that face! I’ve spent the last two days going through all of Heather’s blog posts in my Google Reader. Showing her picture to my friends. Calling Heather my “family friend” so they don’t think I’m crazy.
My heart breaks every time she mentions “when Maddie’s older” or “when she grows up”. She will be greatly missed, but she will never be forgotten. Her story has spread far and wide, and now so many people know about Maddie.
She just looked like SUCH a joy.

The response and support has been so amazing. It has truly renewed my faith in the world. Maddie truly did touch the hearts of so many who never met her (me included). The photos brought tears to my eyes but a smile to my face too. Absolutely adorable.
You have done an amazing job. Everything you’ve done to help and support Heather and Mike show just how truly amazing a friend you are. Hang in there.

My deepest thanks to you and all the others that have set up and organized ways for the non-blogger mom and other readers to FEEL, SEE, and UNDERSTAND that “THE INTERNETS”(ex- pres Bush) is not and does not have to be the evil place that some believe. This is the Internet at it’s best. This extremely sad, overwhelming and heart breaking story has moved many to give, in so many ways, even in these trying economic times. Heather and Mike are so fortunate to have so many caring cyber-space friends. Friends and comrades, that just recently befriended all of you since Maddie’s passing.
The world has been touched by this little girl with the her vibrant, expressive face and huge, knowing eyes. She has touched celebrities, society’s everyman and me. Purple is a saintly, majestic and celebratory color. It fits Maddie, this experience, her death and all of our future. It is the defined as:
Purple is used for two reasons: firstly because it is associated with mourning and so anticipates the pain and suffering of the crucifixion, and secondly because purple is the colour associated with royalty, and celebrates Christ’s resurrection and sovereignty.
I hope that we, as readers, as writers and as parents continue to support each other. Not just in the loss of a child, but at any time support is needed, whether on the internet or otherwise.
Prayers and hugs are sent through these tech-y ways and may the Lord bless everyone, especially little Maddie.
Sue

I choked up on the first video… that was awesome.
I was holding my 9 month old son while watching the second video. That put me over the top. Tyler (my son) smiled and squealed at the pictures of Maddie whenever they changed in the video. He pointed at a few of them and clapped at one of them. I think he has a crush.
Knowing how much it breaks my heart when I think of Maddie (or Heather and Mike for that matter), I simply cannot imagine the pain that Mike and Heather feel. It’s unfathomable. I sincerely hope they understand how much they need each other now. It’s going to be a difficult while for them, and I hope the strength of their love for each other is enough to get them through the storm.

You are listed on the blog list of Angie at Keep Believing. You know that she lost her husband to cancer on March 17. Angie and Brian would have celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on April 19. I am hoping that I can get everyone in her blog list to post on their blogs at 12:00 am on April 19 a post with the title “Keep Believing” so that when she opens her blog, her blog list is filled with recent posts all titled “Keep Believing”. I don’t know how else to arrange this other than commenting on blogs, so forgive my off-topic comment. I would ask that you keep the post up for 24 hours in case she doesn’t look right away, and you don’t have to publish anything with it, just the title will do. I am using the scheduled post feature provided by blogger so I don’t forget. Thanks so much. Heather.

Your comment on smiling when you see her pictures is so humbling, and true. It’s so hard raising a sick child, but every smile you get from them is such a blessing!
